Marigolds in Their Memory | Remembrance Pin

In South Asia, the marigold is the flower of offering. It garlands our gods, our weddings and our goodbyes. This Remembrance, we wear it to honour the soldiers and women of undivided India whose sacrifice is too often left out of the story.

Around 1.3 million soldiers from the pre-partition Indian subcontinent served in the First World War, and more than 74,000 lost their lives. They fought in every theatre, from the muddy trenches of the Western Front to the clifftops of Gallipoli, and served across the armed forces, from India's first flying ace, Indra Lal Roy, to Gabar Singh Negi, awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery and ultimate sacrifice at the Battle of Neuve Chapelle.

In the Second World War, around 2.5 million Indians served in the largest volunteer army in the world, and over 90,000 lost their lives. They were there at key turning points, from D Day to Monte Cassino, and in the skies, like pilot Mohinder Singh Pujji, who insisted on flying in modified headgear so he could keep wearing his turban, serving in France, North Africa and Burma. After VE Day, Indian soldiers fought on in Asia as part of the 14th Army, so overlooked it became known as the "forgotten army".

Indian women gave hugely too. During the First World War, Princess Sophia Duleep Singh raised funds for Indian soldiers and volunteered as a Red Cross nurse. In the Second, women like Second Officer Kalyani Sen joined the Women's Royal Indian Naval Service, taking on clerical work, decoding and military maintenance.

For every story told here, there are millions more that could have been. This pin exists so that their stories and sacrifice can be acknowledged and remembered.

Care

We take pride in our training and skills when handcrafting our jewellery. Once this piece is yours, it becomes a piece in the story of your life, collecting memories and moments for you to share. So hereare some tips for you, to ensure they stand the test of time.

Avoid contact with water as well as liquids, creams and perfumes - these can cause the metal components to tarnish.

Keep your jewellery carefully stored in your APL box/pouch.

Take care of the connecting parts and always store flat.

Avoid dropping your jewellery onto hard surfaces that may cause damage to the wood and cause it to break.

Sustainability

Sustainability and care for the environment is something that is important to us.

While acrylic is the main material we use, we're aware that it isn't an eco-friendly material in itself. We do our utmost best to minimise wastage and any negative impact on the world around us. We use FSC Certified Wood, and all our products are designed and made here in the UK.

Our Story

At Anisha Parmar Studio, every collection begins with a feeling, a thread pulled from South Asian mythology, diaspora memory, and lived experience. Each piece is made with deep listening and intention, designed to be felt as much as worn, to call something back up in you, to remind you of your own power, your own story, your own truth.

Modern heirlooms, made to be worn, cherished, and passed down. Gathering stories as they travel from hand to hand across generations.

Handcrafted with care & love in our Derby (UK) based studio.
